Quillian NaNoWriMo Winners!

Every year, the call goes out and writers of every sort, from novice to old hat, sign up for an amazing ride.  The challenge?  Write 50,000 words in 30 days.  That is 1667 words a day, should you choose to recalculate it as such–and many do.

You’d think that 1667 words a day is simple (that’s not too many, you might say).  You’d think that 1667 words is barely a scene (for what can happen in 1667 words?).

1667 words is not too difficult to write, or to imagine.  It’s not the 1667 words per day that make this a challenge.  It’s the 1667 words that link the prose of that-which-has-come-before with those that-have-yet-to-be-written.

Anyone can sit down and type 1667 words of nonsense per day.  The challenge is to sit down and write a 50,000 word story 1667 words at a time.

Several members of the Quillian Writer’s Workshop took on the challenge this year, and seven of them broke through the goal-line, winning them the admiration of their peers and bragging rights for another year.  More importantly, there are seven new pieces of fiction out there that did not exist before this challenge!  While it is a sure thing that those stories are diamonds in the rough (perhaps even coal awaiting the massive pressure that only editing may provide), it is also a sure thing that those stories are set to become the foundation for the future.  Whether we will read them in their current form, or as a shade cast by their image, these seven writers have accomplished much.  Even if no one other than themselves should ever read this draft, they have still learned from the experience and will apply it to their future, unwritten words of wisdom.

And so, in recognition of their achievement, I present to you, the winners of NaNoWriMo 2010:

Quillian NaNoWriMo Word Counts

Over the course of the month, I may change how this is formatted, but for now, I’ll be posting our current word counts in this post and edit as required to keep it up to date.  That being said, up to date is a bit of a shot in the dark during the early stages, as many people still can’t access the official site to do their own word count updates.

Members with a nil count are not displayed.

If you are having problems updating your word counts on the NaNo site, or your stats don’t appear here, please leave updates in the comments section of this post and I’ll see that your entry is updated.

Names and nicknames appear below with the approval of the individual authors.
